Low-Temperature Charging Protection

The Smart BMS monitors cell temperature and automatically pauses charging when the battery is below its permitted charging range. Charging becomes available again after the cells return to a safe temperature.

  • Automatic charge cut-off: Below 0°C / 32°F
  • Automatic charge recovery: At or above 5°C / 41°F
  • Automatic discharge cut-off: Below −20°C / −4°F
  • Charging temperature: 0°C to 50°C / 32°F to 122°F
  • Discharging temperature: −20°C to 60°C / −4°F to 140°F
  • Storage temperature: −10°C to 50°C / 14°F to 122°F

This model does not include self-heating. Low-temperature protection pauses charging but does not warm the cells. For regular charging below freezing, install the battery in a temperature-controlled compartment or select a confirmed self-heating model.

Group 24 Lead-Acid Battery Replacement

The Group 24 enclosure makes this battery suitable for selected AGM and lead-acid replacement projects. Before installation, confirm that the existing battery compartment, charging equipment and DC electrical system are compatible with LiFePO4 chemistry.

Check the following before replacing an existing battery:

  • Nominal system voltage
  • Battery-compartment dimensions
  • Terminal position and M8 connection requirements
  • Charger and inverter compatibility
  • Required continuous and surge current
  • Main fuse and cable ratings
  • Alternator charging configuration
  • Required operating temperature

Converting from lead-acid to LiFePO4 may require a lithium-compatible charger, revised inverter settings or a suitable DC-to-DC charger for alternator charging.

Build a Larger LiFePO4 Battery Bank

Compatible batteries can be connected in series or parallel to increase system voltage, capacity or both. The reference configuration supports up to four batteries in series and four batteries in parallel, subject to the confirmed BMS configuration and product manual.

  • 4S: 51.2V 100Ah / 5.12kWh
  • 4P: 12.8V 400Ah / 5.12kWh
  • 4S4P: 51.2V 400Ah / 20.48kWh

Only connect batteries of the same model, capacity, BMS version, firmware revision and state of charge. Use equal-length cables for parallel branches and provide suitable overcurrent protection for each branch.

Charging a 12V LiFePO4 Battery

The battery uses a CC/CV charging profile with a reference charge voltage of 14.4V ± 0.2V and a recommended charging current of approximately 20A.

  • LiFePO4-compatible AC battery charger
  • Solar panel with a suitable MPPT charge controller
  • Alternator with a compatible DC-to-DC charger
