Estimated Trolling Motor Runtime

Runtime depends on motor current, speed setting, vessel weight, wind, water conditions and usable battery capacity. The estimates below are calculated using 80Ah, or 80% of the battery’s rated capacity.

Average Motor Current Estimated Runtime
20A Approximately 4 hours
40A Approximately 2 hours
60A Approximately 1.3 hours
80A Approximately 1 hour

Estimated Runtime = Usable Battery Capacity ÷ Average Motor Current

These values are engineering estimates rather than measured runtime results. Actual performance varies with the trolling motor, propeller, speed setting, vessel load and operating conditions.

Why Use One 36V Battery Instead of Three 12V Batteries?

A single 36V LiFePO4 battery simplifies the electrical system by replacing three separate 12V batteries and their series connections.

  • Fewer battery cables and connection points
  • No imbalance between separate series batteries
  • Simpler installation and charging
  • One integrated Smart BMS
  • Single battery monitoring interface
  • More compact battery-bank layout
  • Easier inspection and maintenance

Marine Battery Installation and Circuit Protection

The battery must be secured against vessel movement and installed with correctly rated cables, circuit protection and terminal covers. Installation requirements depend on the trolling motor current, cable length and battery location.

  • Secure battery tray or mounting structure
  • Main fuse close to the positive battery terminal
  • Battery isolation switch
  • Marine-grade cables and crimped terminals
  • Protected positive and negative connections
  • Supported cable routes
  • Protection from standing water and mechanical damage
  • Access for inspection and maintenance

The fuse and cable sizes must be selected according to the trolling motor current, cable length and applicable installation requirements.

36V LiFePO4 Charger Compatibility

The battery requires a charging profile suitable for a 38.4V nominal LiFePO4 battery system. A 43.8V LiFePO4 charger can be used when its output current and charging profile meet the approved battery specification.

Before connecting a charger, confirm:

  • Charger output voltage
  • Maximum charging current
  • LiFePO4 charging profile
  • Connector and terminal polarity
  • Low-temperature charging conditions
  • Onboard AC power compatibility

A charger designed only for lead-acid batteries should not be retained unless its charging parameters have been confirmed as compatible with the LiFePO4 battery.

Smart BMS and Battery Monitoring

The integrated Smart BMS monitors the battery and provides protection when operating conditions move outside the approved limits.

Available functions can include:

  • Overcharge protection
  • Over-discharge protection
  • Overcurrent protection
  • Short-circuit protection
  • High- and low-temperature protection
  • Cell-voltage monitoring
  • Bluetooth battery monitoring
  • CAN or RS485 communication for OEM integration

Optional communication and monitoring functions should be confirmed before sample production.

Battery Testing and Quality Control

Each battery is checked against the approved product specification before shipment. Inspection and testing cover electrical performance, BMS protection, assembly quality and communication functions where required.

  • Cell voltage and consistency inspection
  • Battery capacity testing
  • Charge and discharge testing
  • Smart BMS protection verification
  • Continuous-current testing
  • Bluetooth monitoring checks
  • CAN or RS485 communication testing where specified
  • Terminal and connection inspection
  • Aging and final quality inspection

36V Trolling Motor Battery FAQ

Can one 36V battery replace three 12V batteries?

Yes. A single 36V LiFePO4 battery can replace three 12V batteries connected in series when the trolling motor voltage, battery capacity, discharge current and charging equipment are compatible.

How long will a 36V 100Ah battery run a trolling motor?

Runtime depends on average motor current and operating conditions. Using 80Ah as the estimated usable capacity, a 20A load may operate for about four hours, while a 40A load may operate for about two hours.

Can an existing lead-acid charger charge this battery?

Only when its output voltage, charging profile and current limits are suitable for the battery specification. A dedicated 43.8V LiFePO4 charger is generally recommended.

Does the battery include Bluetooth monitoring?

Bluetooth monitoring is available for this battery configuration. CAN and RS485 communication can also be configured for qualified OEM projects.

Can the enclosure and terminals be customized?

Yes. Battery dimensions, enclosure, terminal positions, connectors, cables and mounting points can be reviewed for qualified OEM projects.
