Battery Capacity and Backup Time

Battery capacity should be based on the energy available from the solar panels, expected household consumption and the amount of energy required after sunset.

A basic starting point is:

Required Battery Energy (Wh) = Daily Energy Use (Wh) × Backup Days ÷ Usable Battery Percentage ÷ Inverter Efficiency

Additional capacity may be required to account for temperature, battery aging, reserve settings and changes in daily energy use.

Inverter and BMS Communication

The inverter model and communication protocol should be confirmed before the battery specification is finalized.

Selected battery systems can support CAN or RS485 communication for:

  • Battery state-of-charge reporting
  • Charge and discharge current limits
  • Battery voltage and temperature information
  • Operating status and fault reporting
  • Parallel battery communication

Communication compatibility depends on the inverter model, firmware and Smart BMS protocol. Compatibility must be confirmed for each project.

Installation Requirements

The battery should be installed in a protected, stable and accessible position with suitable cable routing and clearance for inspection.

The installation review can include:

  • Available installation dimensions
  • Battery mounting and enclosure protection
  • Inverter location and cable length
  • Fuse and isolation-switch selection
  • Protected terminals and cable routes
  • Ventilation and operating temperature
  • Protection from standing water and direct weather exposure

Outdoor placement should only be considered when the battery enclosure and electrical connections have suitable environmental protection.

How is a balcony solar battery sized?

Battery capacity is based on available solar energy, daily household consumption, inverter efficiency, required operating time and available installation space.

Can a balcony battery provide backup power?

Backup capability depends on the inverter, transfer arrangement, battery capacity and connected loads. Not every plug-in solar system supports backup operation.

Do balcony batteries support CAN or RS485?

Selected battery configurations support CAN or RS485 communication. The inverter model and required protocol must be confirmed before production.

Can the battery enclosure be customized?

Yes. Enclosure dimensions, mounting method, terminals, connectors, cables, labels and packaging can be reviewed for qualified OEM projects.

Can batteries be connected in parallel?

Selected models support approved parallel configurations. The manufacturer’s connection limits, communication requirements and commissioning instructions must be followed.
